Objectives

 

The ECA Office for North Africa covers Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia and Sudan, and operates from Morocco.

The objective, to which the ECA Office for North Africa contributes, is to enhance the employment creation environment in North Africa through strengthened economic diversification and regional integration and a better recognition of migrant workers’ qualifications and skills.

To contribute to the objective, the ECA Office for North Africa:

  • Develops evidence-based policies, strategies and reforms and provide technical assistance to support diversification and build resilient economies in North Africa;
  • Analyses, in collaboration with others, employment creation through SMEs in North Africa, with a focus on a green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication, digitalization, gender equality and post-COVID-19 recovery;
  • Provides advisory services and hold subregional consultations on the implementation of AfCFTA, in partnership with ministries of trade, the African Union and the European Union;
  • Provides technical assistance and training for selected African countries on migration-related data and capacity-building towards recognition of the skills and qualifications of African workers;
  • Conducts research on demographic trends, the digital skills gap and productive employment creation in Africa in collaboration with United Nations and external partners.
