The various international crises, demographic pressure, rapid urbanization and water scarcity have placed agricultural sustainability and food security at the centre of the policy agendas of North African countries. This reflects the subregion’s high dependence on food imports. High cereal dependency,1 an unsustainable agricultural sector and low agricultural productivity have made the situation even more challenging since 2021.
