The joint session of the Intergovernmental Committees of Senior Officials and Experts for North and West Africa will be jointly organized by the Subregional Office for North Africa and the Subregional Office for West Africa of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and will be held in Accra (Ghana) from 1 to 3 November 2023 on the theme “Investing in the energy transition, food security and regional value chains for sustainable development in North and West Africa”.

The joint session will be preceded on 1 and 2 November 2023 by an expert group meeting (EGM). Participants in the EGM and the joint session will discuss food and energy insecurity, which continues to affect both subregions, and ways to improve food security, accelerate the energy transition and develop regional value chains. Participants will also review statutory reports by the two subregional offices. The meetings will offer participants an opportunity to share experiences, best practices and lessons learned and will help to strengthen cooperation among countries and between the two subregions.

The EGM and joint session will be attended by senior officials, experts, and representatives from members of ECA in North and West Africa, regional economic communities, intergovernmental organizations, United Nations entities, development partners and non-governmental organizations.
